Specification
Hexacosanol is commonly utilized as a nutritional supplement alongside other long-chain fatty alcohols like octacosanol. Animal experiments have demonstrated that hexacosanol exerts a potent induction on neuronal maturation, showcasing a crucial neuroprotective effect. In contrast, tetracosanols and triacontanol exhibit no such activity, whereas octacosanol demonstrates mild activity. Hexacosanol notably retards the degeneration of choline neurons, suggesting that exogenous control of long-chain fatty alcohols contributes to the nutritional effects on nerves in the body. Consequently, it is inferred that low doses of this compound may aid in mitigating cell loss in certain neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease or stroke.
